Moldovan parliament speaker, Romanian president discuss bilateral ties, security, reforms

Chisinau, 13 June /MOLDPRES/ - Romania is with Moldova, by its side on the European way. I wish the Moldovan citizens the same as for the Romanian citizens. Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis made statements to this effect at a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the legislative body’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The main subjects tackled at the discussions were focused on the bilateral relations between the two states, economic, social and political situation in Moldova, presidential polls due on 30 October, Moldova’s EU agenda, regional security in the context of resumption of the five-plus-two talks on the Transnistrian settlement.
Andrian Candu reviewed the latest developments in Moldova and referred to the country’s domestic priorities for the immediately next period. In the context, the speaker gave assurances that, till the end of the present session of the parliament, Moldova would fully implement all commitments assumed in the Roadmap, in terms of the priority reforms approved by the European Union.
Referring to the difficulty of reforming the justice sector, Speaker Andrian Candu thanked Romanian experts for the sectoral expertise provided to advance the reform. At the same time, Candu reiterated the importance of boosting projects on energy interconnection, initiated with Romania.
The parliament speaker thanked Romania for the unconditional support provided to Moldova, including for the humanitarian assistance offered in a moment of maximum need for some categories of Moldovans.
For his part, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis urged the Moldovan authorities to continue implementing the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the same pace.
