Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union Border Assistance Mission for Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) today donated eight vehicles to the Border Police Department and Customs Service of Moldova. The cars are able to work on ground and will enhance the capacity of both services to carry out actions of patrolling and operative interventions along the entire border.
Head of the EUBAM Mission, Ambassador Andrew Tesoriere has voiced confidence that the donation would help employees of the two institutions fulfill their duties qualitatively and in due time.
“It is only natural for us to endow with technical means our partners, with whom we have been jointly carrying out more projects to ensure an efficient management of the state border over the last ten years. I expect seeing the use of these vehicles in innovating practices of the last period, such as joint mobile patrols,” the EUBAM head said.
For his part, the deputy director general of the Customs Service, Grigore Ionitov, appreciated the sustainable partnership with the EUBAM Mission. “The EUBAM Mission has become an important strategic partner of the Customs Service from Moldova. This aid will allow us carrying out ambitious projects, implementing more initiatives of methodological and technical assistance,” Ionitov said.
The European Union Border Assistance Mission for Moldova and Ukraine is a structure set up to check the traffic at the border between the two countries. The Mission was created in November 2005, at a joint request by the presidents of Moldova and Ukraine, addressed to the European Commission. The EUBAM Mission was fully founded by the European Union.
