France, Romania reaffirm full support for Moldova's European integration

Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu and French State Secretary for European Affairs Harlem Desir, who are on a working visit to Chisinau on 16-17 June 2016, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The sides reviewed the Moldovan authorities’ priorities in the context of carrying out Moldova’s European agenda, level of meeting the commitments in the roadmap and internal evolutions. Also, the officials discussed the importance of cooperation with the International Monetary Fund for relaunching the country’s foreign assistance.
Candu referred to the authorities’ determination to advance in the European integration path, stressing the imminence of joint measures on behalf of the parliament and government for speeding up reforms in the justice and anti-corruption fight, financial-banking sector and strengthening the energy security in Moldova. The speaker also approached the improvement of the business climate in the country in order to increase foreign investments.
For their part, Comanescu and Desir reaffirmed the full support of the two states for Moldova’s European agenda. At the same time, the European officials welcomed the achievements recorded in implementing reforms and encouraged the authorities to maintain the pace of activity of the last period.
“We are here to reconfirm the support for Moldova’s European integration and we come up with a message of appreciation both for the current government and parliament on resuming the reforms in getting closer to the EU”, Comanescu said. He pointed out that it was for the first time ever when the foreign ministers of Romania and France paid a joint working visit.
Harlem Desir said that Moldova had many friends in the French National Assembly willing to back Moldova.
