Moldovan parliament confirms new nominal composition of Central Electoral Commission

Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today confirmed, with 79 votes for, the nominal composition of the Central Electoral Commission, appointed for a five-year mandate.
The new composition of CEC is made up of Veaceslav Agrigoroae (adviser of MP), Rodica Ciubotaru (jurist and head of department at a Ltd company), Sergiu Gurduza (former deputy justice minister), Maxim Lebedinschi (Chisinau municipal council on behalf of the Party of Socialists (PSRM)) , Alina Russu (head of office of the chief of the Party of Communists’ faction), Andrei Volentir, Vasile Gafton and Iurie Ciocan – former members of the Commission, as well as Vladimir Sarban, put up the president of Moldova.
The members of the Central Electoral Commission took the oath in the parliament’s plenum. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu wished them success and free and fair elections. Vladimir Sarban, who is on medical leave, is to take oath at a next meeting.
The PSRM faction demanded that a representative of the opposition be appointed as CEC president and namely on behalf of the Socialists. “We also want the president to be on behalf of the opposition; yet, the CEC members will decide it in the end,” Candu noted.
The mandates of the Central Electoral Commission members expired on 11 February 2016.
