Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/-Former Defence Minister Viorel Cibotaru today was elected by majority votes as leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) within the 7th congress of the faction.
Former Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, lawmakers of PLDM Liliana Palihovici, Tudor Deliu and Vadim Pistrinciuc also run for the position, but they got away in favor of Viorel Cibotaru.
The new leader said that three of the main goals of PLDM were continuing the party reform, its strengthening and optimizing at political level. “PLDM will be part of the dialogue process to identify single candidate and we will opt for this in full mandate. PLDM will remain in opposition and will consolidate stances in certain issues. We will be critical to attempts to embezzle Moldova’s European integration path”, Cibotaru said.
The congress operated amendments to the statute and programme of PLDM. Faction leader Vlad Filat, who is in prison No 13, resigned from the position in late May 2016.
