Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ - Five schools and kindergartens from the Chisinau municipality have been selected to participate in a pilot project, Coolege Vitamine, on increasing the consumption of fresh apples in pre-school institutions and schools of Moldova. The project is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Project (UNDP).
The UNDP Moldova project manager, Dumitru Vasilescu, has said that “the next stage of the project provides for an organized process of stocking and distribution of snacks and monitoring children’s reactions, in order to study as well as possible their interaction with fresh fruit snacks, the popularity of which is to be enhanced in all the schools and kindergartens of the country,” a communiqué of the organization reads.
The campaign, „Coolege Vitamine,” has been recently launched, in order to raise money for starting the programme on promoting healthy food skills among children, and has so far collected over 70 per cent of the sum needed for the first installment of 4,000 dollars. The raised funds will be doubled by UNDP and used to provide about 2,000 children with snacks of fresh sliced apples during the entire school year 2016-2017.
The programme is part of a project titled, Innovative Business Development for Local Sustainable Economic Growth, carried out in 2014-2017, and financially backed by the government of Norway and UNDP Moldova.
