Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Joint Commission for European Integration between the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments resumes working on 22 June, after a two-year break. The commission is led by the newly elected co-chairman, MP George Mocanu. The official made statements to this effect in an interview given to local media.
“The political unrest in Moldova was an impediment to the return to normal of the commission’s work. Till one month ago, the commission on behalf of Moldova did not have either voted chairperson or members. Now, we have full composition and resume all topical subjects on the agenda between the two states. Topics on the strategy of implementation of the Association Agreement, actions undertaken by the Moldovan authorities to fulfill the conditions needed for the transfer of the financial assistance provided by the Romanian government, energy and information security, business opportunities on both banks of Prut, taking over the good practices in the field of reforming the justice system, subjects dealing with the education and youth sector, etc. will be discussed as a priority,” Mocanu said.
According to the co-chairman of the commission, over the last years, the Moldovan-Romanian relations have advanced in more strategic fields, taking into account the common aspirations, historical, cultural and linguistic relations of the two countries.
“The reconstruction of over 800 kindergartens, operationalizing of the Romanian Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) for Moldova, development of projects on energy inter-connection, increase in the number of scholarships for Bessarabian students, material assistance provided by the Romanian government to back socially vulnerable segments are just some of the hundreds of actions through which Romania is by the side of Moldova’s citizens,” Mocanu specified.
At the same time, the politician considers that “there are no problems in the bilateral relations between Moldova and Romania; yet, the collaboration between the central and local public administration authorities from the two states should be extended, in order to ensure a better coordination of the common positions within international organizations, as well as to speed up processes of enhancing the energy, economic and information security.”
The last meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the parliaments of Romania and Moldova took place in Bucharest in June 2014.
