Joint Commission for European Integration between Romanian, Moldovan parliaments holds meeting in Chisinau

Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Traditional and strategic subjects today were discussed at the fifth meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the parliaments of Romania and Moldova. The co-chairpersons of the Commission, Florin Constantinescu and George Mocanu, made statements to this effect at a news briefing.
The co-chairman of the Commission on behalf of the Moldovan parliament, George Mocanu, said that, at the meeting, the sides had discussed topics on the implementation of the Association Agreement, energy security, opportunities for the business from the two banks of Prut, taking over good practices in the justice system reformation sector, subjects on education and youth, etc.
“We notified the colleagues from Romania about the problem of Romanian passports held by the Moldovans, the validity of which expired and they have no possibility other to extend them, but to submit a new file of documents, speeding up the signing of a memorandum between the two states on the use of anti-hail systems at the border, extending the network of joint border checkpoints, as well as the enlargement of the format of the next meetings through participation of representatives of the standing parliamentary commissions from Chisinau and Bucharest,” Mocanu said.
For his part, the co-head of the Commission on behalf of Romania, Florin Constantinescu, noted that the Moldovan authorities had managed to implement practically 68 per cent of the European integration agenda, “and this fact makes us happy, and for this reason, we will further back the reforms underway.”
“There are pre-requisites for all the reforms underway in the basic fields of Moldova’s development be carried through, for which reason I am pleasantly impressed. At the meeting, we also discussed important projects for the two states, and namely the cross-border navigable course and construction of a highway, Targu-Mures-Iasi-Ungheni, which is important for Romania’s infrastructure. I congratulate you for the work you carry out and everything will depend on the way you manage to maintain the situation. It would be good for you to learn from our mistakes on the European way,” Constantinescu added.
The meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the parliaments of Romania and Moldova will last two days. Within the event, the co-heads of the Commission will have meetings with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Eduard Grama, Transports and Roads Infrastructure Minister Iurie Chirinciuc.
The last meeting of the Commission took place in Bucharest in June 2014.
