Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today asked the ministers to prove maximum of efficiency during a visit to Chisinau by a mission of the International Monetary Fund, due on 5-15 July. The mission will start discussions on a new agreement with Moldova.
“For us, the Agreement means not only access to financing, including to funds coming from the European Union and the World Bank, but also a signal of confidence for foreign investors that our country is stable and has good economic prospects,” the prime minister said.
Pavel Filip said the present cabinet had taken over the governance in a moment when, because of an unprecedented fraud, the risk of instability in the country was high. The country did not have financial support; therefore, tens of projects remained unfinished, and thousands of jobs were not created. Yet, the government managed to prove that it can pay the pensions and salaries and that the country would not enter e default. Pavel Filip gave assurances that the fraud committed would be punished and that it would be no longer possible in the long run.
The prime minister said that he had had a rich dialogue on the matter with U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit and the delegation of the European Commission.
An IMF mission, led by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, will come to Chisinau on 5 July on a ten-day visit, to start discussions on a new agreement with Moldova.
The mission “will initiate discussions on a possible programme backed by IMF and will tend to reach an agreement on a comprehensive set of policies, due to contribute to maintaining the macroeconomic stability, improving the corporate governance and enhancing the transparency of the shareholders of the banking sector, as well as to stimulating a sustainable and comprehensive economic growth,” IMF Resident Representative in Moldova Armine Khachatryan said in a press statement.
