Chisinau, 22 June /MOLDPRES/ - The implementation of new Moldovan-Romanian projects and identifying solutions to the present topical problems were the main subjects on the agenda of the Joint Commission for European Integration of the Romanian and Moldovan parliaments, which held a meeting on 22 June after a two-year break, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The participants in the meeting tackled aspects on the degree of enforcement of the Association Agreement with EU, including the good practices of Romania in reforming the justice sector. The sides also discussed projects on energy inter-connection between Moldova and Romania, new opportunities for the business environment from Romania and Moldova, prospects for development dealing with the education and youth sector.
The lawmakers from Moldova and Romania also discussed the starting of more projects on cooperation at parliamentary level, including by extending the format of the Joint Commission for European Integration through organizing joint meetings between parliamentary commissions from Chisinau and Bucharest.
In another context, the MPs also debated more up-to-date subjects notified by Moldovan citizens, which need to be settled.
‘’We have notified colleagues from Romania’s parliament about the problem of the Romanian passports with expired validity, held by Moldovan citizens, processed when they were minors. We have the commitment of the colleagues lawmakers from Romania, who have right to initiative and solutions to amend the legislation, if necessary,’’ the co-chairman of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the Romanian and Moldovan parliaments on behalf of Moldova, George Mocanu, said.
Mocanu also informed about a proposal to speed up the signing of a memorandum between the Moldovan and Romanian governments on the use of anti-hail systems at border. ‘’Our legislation in this field dates back from the Soviet period and we cannot use the anti-hail system at border, and as a result, we have the consequences of the natural calamities in Ungheni and not only,’’ the MP said.
George Mocanu also said that the Joint Commission for European Integration was set to have an ambitious agenda for the next period.
‘’We must take advantage of this period, as there is openness both in Chisinau and in Bucharest to carry out common projects. We agreed to submit petitions to the government to extend the network of joint border checkpoints. We have a pilot project in Cahul and we think that it is important that we have joint points along the entire border,’’ George Mocanu said.
The co-head of the Joint Commission for European Integration on behalf of Romania, Florin Constantinescu, appreciated the progress made in implementing the Roadmap, which contains priority reforms.
‘’Following the discussions and while consulting the agenda of the problems you have to settle for the European integration, we ascertained that you had carried out 67 per cent of the actions of this agenda, which is good and there are premises for you to manage to fully implement them till 1 July. I congratulate you for having a parliamentary majority backing the European integration,’’ the Romanian senator said.
Florin Constantinescu reiterated Romania’s support for Moldova’s European integration, both at the political and the financial levels. He said the list of important projects carried out by Romania in Moldova, such as those from the education, health and energy infrastructure sectors, were to be completed with new ones.
‘’One of the projects refers to the navigable course and 11 micro-hydroelectric power plants on the Prut river, which will be a very good cross-border project for both states, as it would solve the energy problems, as well as the ones dealing with bridges. There is another big project, even of European importance, it is about the highway Iasi-Ungheni-Targu Mures, which is presently the most important infrastructure project for Romania. The things are good, everything depends on the way Moldova will manage to maintain stability,’’ Florin Constantinescu said.
At the meeting, the Moldovan parliament was represented by MPs George Mocanu, Marcel Raducan, Romana Botan Mihaela Spatari, Sergiu Stati and Corneliu Padnevici. The Romanian delegation was made up of senators Florin Constantinescu, Marius Sorin-Ovidiu Bota, Florinel Butnaru and Tinel Gheorghe.
