Moldovan deputy premier meets UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan met United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Rita Izsák-Ndiayne on 22 June, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The talks were focused on implementing in Moldova the UN Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National, Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
The officials exchanged opinions about the conditions, in which the people belonging to national minorities maintained and developed their culture in Moldova, including in the Transnistrian region, as well as the extent to which they had possibility to preserve the essential elements of their identity, respectively, religion, language, traditions and cultural heritage.
Balan said that the government promoted policies for supporting national minorities, via implementing efficient mechanisms, meant to exclude any discrimination and to ensure full observance of their rights.
Rita Izsák-Ndiayne voiced willingness to provide assistance to the Moldovan authorities, if needed, in order to ensure protection of people belonging to national minorities.
