Moldova becomes full-fledged member of WTO Agreement on Government Procurement

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has become a full-fledged member of the World Trade Organisation's (WTO) Agreement on Government Procurement. The instrument of ratification of the document was presented by a delegation of Moldovan government at the WTO headquarters in Geneva during a special ceremony on 22 June. Participating in the event were representatives of the 164 member states.
According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, attending the event, WTO Deputy Director-General David Shark highly appreciated the commitments assumed by Moldova and noted that the Agreement would facilitate the integration of the national economy into world trade system and would contribute to adjusting the national trade policies to the parameters of international sales markets.
Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic underlined that Moldova’s joining the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement would have increased effects on ensuring a transparent and efficient investment climate for Moldova. “The New strategy of public procurement, initiated by Moldova's government, will facilitate the administrative procedures for submitting files online, and will combat corruption and bureaucracy in the process of organizing tenders nationally,” he said.
For his part, Moldova’s Representative to WTO, Moldovan Ambassador to Swiss Confederation Tudor Ulianovschi thanked the development partners of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), (German Agency for International Cooperation) GIZ and EU for the support provided during the accession process. He specified that the new commitment in the world trade system would create prerequisites needed to optimize the management of public resources, would increase the local economic agents’ access to the foreign markets by participating in international tenders, as well as by developing a new online system of public procurement, according to international standards.
The Moldovan mission to Geneva promoted local wine products, traditions, national costume and national values by a cultural and artistic recital.
