Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/- The parliament today adopted a draft law on amending and completing the Electoral Code in the second and final reading, with the votes of 55 MPs.
The draft law was elaborated following a decision by the Constitutional Court from 4 March 2016, providing for returning to election of the president by direct voting.
The main amendments were operated to the provisions dealing with the terms of setting up electoral constituencies and polling stations, establishing the election date, special conditions for the subscription lists for registration of candidates, special provisions on holding the runoff, confirmation of the elections and, obviously, the procedure of suspending and dismissal from office of president by referendum.
Thus, the Moldovan president will be elected by universal, equal, direct, secret and free voting for a four-year mandate. The election constituencies and electoral councils of second level will be set up 55 and, respectively, 50 days before the polls.
At a meeting on 18 March, the parliament created a working group which operated amendments and completions to the Electoral Code, in order to ensure possibility of enforcing new constitutional provisions on president’s election by direct voting. On 14 April, the draft law was adopted in the first reading.
