Co-rapporteurs of PACE monitoring committee to pay fact-collecting visit to Moldova

Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ - The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Valentina Leskaj and Ögmundur Jonásson will pay a fact-collecting visit to Moldova on 27-29 June, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The goal of the visit by the European lawmakers is to take knowledge of the recent political developments in Moldova, including preparations for the presidential polls due on 30 October 2016, legislative progress made in implementing the Association Agreement, evolution of the events in the Transnistrian region and the cases of ex-PM Vlad Filat and former PACE member Grigore Petrenco.   

The visit’s agenda includes meetings with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Pavel Filip. The PACE co-rapporteurs will also have discussions with Deputy Parliament Speaker Liliana Palihovici, the leadership of the parliamentary parties, MPs, honorary leader of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov, the leader of the Liberal Party, Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, the leader of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin, as well as the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, Viorel Cibotaru.

Under the agenda, the European MPs will also have meetings with Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ombudsman’s Office. At the same time, the co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee also have scheduled meetings with representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society and extra-parliamentary parties.   

On 28 June, the PACE co-rapporteurs will pay a visit to Tiraspol, to discuss with representatives of the Transnistrian region and civil society.
