Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu proposes to identify solutions to compensate the losses of the residents from the southern Cahul district, whose houses were hit by high-tonnage vehicles carrying goods to the Giurgiulesti port. The speaker will propose to the parliament’s plenum to consider the creation of a special fund, which is to be periodically completed, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

During a working visit to the Cahul district, the speaker met local authorities, demanding full information on this topic, in order to assess the damages, after more citizens informed that their houses’ walls had been cleaved. A solution proposed by the local authorities is to construct a highway to bypass the Cahul city, an underway project, for which a sum of six million lei is provided for in the 2016 state budget.

Attending discussions with Candu were also mayors from southern Moldova, teachers and physicians, enterprises and civil society’s representatives. The sides tackled current issues at local level and the needed solutions. Andrian Candu said the Cahul district was to benefit from a string of projects in regional development, including through accessing European funds, which will help modernize the south Moldova region.

”The authorities are discussing with a Japanese company intending to invest in the southern region of the country till late 2016.The turning to account of the tourism and resorts’ potential of the Cahul should be turned into a priority, including via implementing infrastructure projects and opening of more tourism routes with historical impact. Also, residents from the southern region might benefit from projects in the culture sector, carried out jointly with the Romanian government, including by accessing European funds. We must succeed implementing all these projects, so that the Cahul city really becomes the southern capital of Moldova,” Candu said.

At the same time, the parliament speaker said the signing of the agreement with IMF would mean also accessing European funds, especially for infrastructure projects; it is about approximately 300 million euros for the next two years, from which Cahul district resident might benefit.

Other subjects discussed at the meeting were focused on the farmers’ problems, situation of the settlements in the Prut river meadow, periodically hit by floods, difficulties faced by small schools, implementation of projects on upgrading the infrastructure, etc.

In Cahul, the speaker visited an enterprise making different sorts of cheese and the Tricon company. In discussions, the sides referred to solutions to develop the two businesses, enhance the level of goods’ competitiveness and export capacities. The enterprise making different sorts of cheese daily processes about 10 tons of milk. The Tricon factory of ready-made clothes and knitted materials is one of the main companies of Moldova, with about 800 employees and an yearly profit of 1.5 million lei.
