Moldovan deputy premier meets PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today met the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Valentina Leskaj and Ögmundur Jonasson. Attending the meeting was also Head of the Chisinau-based Council of Europe Office José-Luis Herrero, other officials, the Bureau for Reintegration has informed.
At the event, the deputy prime minister for reintegration welcomed the visit to Moldova by the delegation members and highly appreciated the Council of Europe’s support to the country on the way of reforms and carrying out the European agenda.
Gheorghe Balan referred in detail to the state and prospects of negotiations on Transnistrian problem settlement, noting the recent progresses within all platforms of dialogue and the results of the Permanent Conference on Political Issues in the Transnistrian Settlement Process („5+2” talks), held in Berlin on 02-03 June 2016.
Also, Balan pointed out a number of important issues on the agenda of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue, due to be settled first and foremost, as they deal with ensuring fundamental human rights and freedoms in the region, free movement, work of the Latin-script schools in the region, access of farmers from the eastern Dubasari district, whose right to ownership was harmed, to farmlands placed beyond the Kamenka-Tiraspol highway, etc.
At the same time, Gheorghe Balan informed the Euro-parliamentarians on preparations for the traditional Bavarian conference, Confidence Building Measures in the Transnistrian Conflict Settlement, emphasizing that it might take place in next July.
The sides exchanged views on matters reported by the deputy prime minister.
