Moldovan parliament speaker meets chairwoman of International Diebetes Federation for Europe

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/ - Ensuring legislative support for optimizing the public health system, including ensuring guaranteed access of patients with chronic diseases to quality medical care services are among the priorities of Moldova’s authorities, and is also an important chapter of the Association Agreement with the European Union. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Chairwoman of the International Diabetes Federation for Europe Șehnaz Karadeniz discussed the topic at a meeting today, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The discussions were focused, in particular, on aspects dealing with the prevention, care and treatment of patients with chronic diseases, such the people ill hyperglycemia, whose number reaches about 80,000 in Moldova. Andrian Candu and Șehnaz Karadeniz exchanged opinions in the experience of other states in this sector, highlighting the importance of the legislative support, both to ensure the legislative framework and promote a healthy lifestyle in the society.
Andrian Candu thanked the chairwoman of the International Diabetes Federation for the support provided to Moldova to strengthen the capacities of the local specialists in the prevention and care of patients sick with hyperglycemia and a grant offered to open a section for diagnosing the complications of this disease.
The parliament speaker emphasized that the good cooperation between the government and parliament would help also change the situation in the field of social services and medical assistance, which represents an important chapter of the Association Agreement.
For her part, Șehnaz Karadeniz referred to the significance of parliament’s involvement in backing the improvement of the medical assistance of people ill with hyperglycemia. She invited Moldova to join the pan-European network of lawmakers to fight diabetes, which affects more and more people worldwide. According to Karadeniz, the network is set to launch and extend a string of projects focused on the prevention and enhancing the degree of population’s informing and awareness in terms of the consequences of this chronic disease.
