Moldovan deputy foreign minister speaks out for reviving Transnistrian conflict settlement process in Vienna

Chisinau, June 30 /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii has given several speeches on the agenda issues at the OSCE Annual Security Review Conference, held in Vienna. In particular, the speeches were focused on prospects of the Transnistrian conflict settlement, evolution of the crisis in Ukraine, reviving mechanisms of control over conventional weapons and promoting measures to strengthen confidence and security in the OSCE area, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and media communication service has reported.
In his speeches, Deputy Minister Darii pointed out the importance to resume, after a two-year break, the official 5 + 2 talks and expressed firm determination of the Moldovan authorities to further promote the Transnistrian conflict settlement, including by implementing the agreements reached at the Berlin meeting on 2-3 June, this year. He spoke out for boosting efforts to settle the Transnistrian problem, by working out a special status for the Transnistrian region, with the observance of Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Moldovan diplomat revealed Moldova’s willingness to further support efforts for cessation of hostilities in eastern Ukraine and overcoming the crisis in this coiuntry, invoking, in particular, its negative impact on security in the region.
Deputy Minister Lilian Darii also emphasized Moldova's interest in upgrading the Vienna Document 2011 on confidence- and security-building measure, in order to enhance military transparency and security in the OSCE area. In this context, he advocated full withdrawal of the Russian troops from Moldova, in accordance with decisions taken at the OSCE Summit in Istanbul in 1999. Darii also declared for turning the current peacekeeping operation in Transnistria into a multinational civil mission with a proper international mandate.
