Moldovan premier: Roadmap tasks almost fully achieved

12:30 | 01.07.2016 Category: Political

Chisinau, July 1 /MOLDPRES/ - The tasks included in the Roadmap on the priority reforms' agenda have been almost fully implemented. Prime Minister Pavel Filip made statements to this effect at a today joint meeting of the parliament and government leadership, organized in the context of the entry into force of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement 1 July 2016.

The prime minister today said that this was a historic day for Moldova, stressing that “also today, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement enters into force.  I would like to congratulate all citizens, as we have made a step forward towards the European Union, and those who argue that the UK Brexit will make us give up our European integration, are terribly wrong,” said Filip.

“Starting from today, Moldova is not just a partner, but is an associated state of the European Union. We have made a considerable effort and perhaps it is worth noting that less politics and more labour is the label we might use in the further cooperation as well,” said Parliament Speaker Adrian Candu.

Participants in the meeting said that about 70 per cent of the Roadmap commitments had been fulfilled, with the rest being under advanced implementation. “We have found out that things improved. Nevertheless, the deadline for the Roadmap provisions 'implementation expires in a month, which requires an increased pace for giving final touches to all actions planned. In the second half of this year already, we shall make another programme, due to focus on the enforcement of the adopted laws and drafts,” added Pavel Filip.

“Forty out of 52 remaining acts have been fully carried out, another seven bills are to be approved in the second reading. Thus, only 4-5 drafts remain in terms of arrears,” said Speaker Andrian Candu.

The Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova, on the one hand, and the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and its Member States, on the other hand, signed in Brussels on 27 June 2014, entered into force today. The entry into force of the Agreement signifies conclusion of its ratification by the signatory sides and, respectively, the full enforcement of all its provisions.
