United States marks Independence Day

Chisinau, July 4 /MOLDPRES/ – The United States marks its National Day today. This is a federal state in the Northern America, located in the central part of the continent, between the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans, bordered with Canada and Mexico. On this day, the whole country celebrates the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence from July 4, 1776, when U.S. proclaimed independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
The USA has 50 states and a federal district (Columbia). It has an area of 9,396,691 square kilometers and a population of 318.9 million residents. Washington city is the capital of U.S. Other big cities are: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, San Diego, Boston, San Francisco, etc.
The U.S. is a strong economy and a multilateral developed country, ranking first in the world in terms of overall production volume. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is USD 16.776 trillion and GDP per capita is $ 50,041.98.
The United States exports transport means, industrial machinery, machine tools, electrical and electronic devices, chemicals, textiles etc. It imports: mining raw materials, oil, tea, coffee, food. The country conducts foreign trade with Canada, Japan, Mexico and Western European countries.
Diplomatic relations between Moldova and the United States were established on 28 February 1992.
According to data by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova’s trade with U.S. totaled USD 108.5 mln. in 2014, increasing by 9 7% against the same period of 2013. The trade balance of Moldova with U.S. is negative, amounting to USD 44.3 million in 2014. In January-September 2015, Moldovan operators' exports to U.S. recorded USD 17168 thousand. U.S. imports value amounted to USD 36616 thousand.
In January-April 2016, Moldova exported to U.S. goods worth US $6,002,300, with a share of 1.01%. In the same period, Moldova imported US goods worth $17,005.6, the share being 1.32%.
Since 1992, the United States has provided Moldova with financial assistance worth almost $ 1.2 billion, including $ 20.66 million in the fiscal year 2014, provided by the US Government through USAID programmes, Department of State and Department of Defence.
