Moldova shares from experience in implementing Mobility Partnership

Chisinau, 5 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) on 5-6 July hosts a workshop, Mobility Partnership as Catalyst for Cooperation: Experience of Eastern Neighbourhood Countries. The event is organized jointly with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and backed by EU through the Mobility Partnership Facility, the MAEIE information and media communication service has reported.    

This initiative serves as a platform of exchange of good practices and experiences in implementing policies and projects on the entire dimension of EU’s Global Approach to Migration and Mobility, bilateral dialogue with the EU member states, strengthening the legislative and institutional framework nationally in the migration and borders management sector, visa-related policies, as well as consolidating the mechanism of coordinating the Mobility Partnerships with EU.   

In this context, the participants in the workshop include representatives of the Eastern Partnership member states, both those who have already signed the Mobility Partnership with EU and the ones set to do it, representatives of the EU member countries and European institutions, as well as international organizations implementing projects in the migration and mobility sector.  

The workshop is organized on the sidelines of the Extended Meeting of the Moldova-EU Mobility Partnership Local Cooperation Platform, due on 7 July 2016.   

The joint declaration on the Moldova-European Union was signed in Luxembourg on 5 June 2008. Thus, Moldova is one of the pilot states benefitting from a Mobility Partnership with EU.

The Moldova – European Union Mobility Partnership includes 15 EU member states (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary) and EU institutions (European External Action Service, European Commission, European Training Foundation and European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders  - FRONTEX).

Since 2008 so far, more than 108 projects have been carried or are underway in the fields of papers’ security, migration policies, fighting illegal migration within the Moldova-EU Mobility Partnership.

The sources of financing for the Mobility Partnership are the following: the European Neighbourhood Instrument; funds for domestic affairs allocated through the mobility partnership instrument; topic-related programme on cooperation with third countries in the migration and asylum sector; bilateral financial assistance from the EU member states; national resources.
