Moldovan cabinet enjoys support of Foreign Investors' Association in reforms, signing new agreement with IMF

Chisinau, 5 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with representatives of the Foreign Investors Association (FIA). The sides discussed the reforms launched by the cabinet to create a friendly environment for attracting investments into Moldova’s national economy, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
In the beginning of the meeting, the PM referred to government’s priorities, stressing that the opinion of the business environment was very important in developing and promoting reforms.
“The governance’s general goal is to provide a better living for citizens, and to do this, the state should make a string of public and social investments from the state budget. Obviously, money can be collected in the budget only if there are companies operating in the country. Thus, we must create needed conditions for the business environment to feel comfortable, to be able to develop,” Pavel Filip said.
For his part, FIA President Ridha Tekaia, highlighted the results achieved by the government in stabilizing the financial, economic and social situation in Moldova. He said that the Association members would further back the implementation of reforms aimed at developing a friendly climate for business. “We understand the importance of signing an Agreement with the International Monetary Fund and you may rely on our support to succeed to this end. This agreement will open a string of opportunities for Moldova, including in order to attract new investments,” Ridha Tekaia said.
Another subject of the discussions was focused on the work of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister and participation of business community’s representatives in the work of this entity. In this respect, the Foreign Investors Association proposed to create a working group on issues of the Labour Code and regulating the employer-employee relation, including from the viewpoint of payment of social benefits and creating optimum conditions for work.
The sides also discussed the need to develop the infrastructure, in order to provide conditions for development of enterprises and attract new investments, offer facilities, including fiscal ones, to entrepreneurs from certain sectors, as well as the professional training of young people and providing them with well-paid jobs.
The Foreign Investors Association is a non-profit organization of Moldova, set up in 2003. The Association’s members are companies with foreign capital, which cover the entire range of activity sectors of Moldova’s economy. The organisation’s goal is to facilitate the dialogue between public authorities and investors.
