Moldovan 1949 deportations victims commemorated in Chisinau

Chisinau, July 6 /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova marks 67 years since the second wave of deportations from Bessarabia today.
On this occasion, the state flags are lowered at half mast in all Moldovan settlements.
Today morning, ordinary people, as well as more officials laid flowers at the Pain Train monument on the Chisinau-based railway station square.
On this occasion too, former deportees and political prisoners will receive material aid worth 700 lei.
The Stalinism Victims Day (6 July) was established under the parliament decision No. 116-XVI from 22 May 2008.
On the night of 5 to 6 July 1949, over 35 thousand people, mostly women and children, were deported to Siberia and Northern Kazakhstan. That was the second wave of deportations from Bessarabia.
