Moldovan defence minister meets U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defence

Chisinau, July 10 /MOLDPRES/ – Defence Minister Anatol Salaru has met Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States, Dr. Michael Carpenter at the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Poland.
The main topics discussed were: the National Army reform, peacekeeping missions, regional situation and priorities of the Moldovan-American bilateral cooperation, according to the defence ministry’s public relations service.
The defence minister reiterated that the USA is a key strategic partner for Moldova. Salaru thanked for the support provided by the American side for National Army reform, materialized in training, equipment and expertise.
The U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense highlighted the importance of strengthening and continuing the Moldovan-American relations. Carpenter said the USA would continue to support the defence sector reforms, all initiatives, as well as the bilateral programmes.
In the context, dr. Carpenter welcomed the contribution of the National Army to the Kosovo Force (KFOR) mission, stressing that this had shown that Moldova’s involvement was appreciated internationally.
In the end, the officials discussed a possible visit to Moldova by the U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defence.
The defence minister on 8-9 July participated in the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Poland, along with representatives of the 28 allied states and NATO partner countries.
