Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip has given assurances that the cabinet would further back the development of the agricultural sector, and would remain open to find solutions to problems faced by the business environment. The PM made statements to this effect at a today’s new conference on the launch of the “Livada Moldovei” (Moldova’s Orchard) project, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The prime minister stressed that agriculture was a priority sector for Moldova, and to have a profitable business, entrepreneurs must use new technologies in their work. ”This year, after we had natural calamities, we understand better than ever that we should invest in modern technologies. Even if the initial costs become slightly higher, we will be sure that we are going to have a quality harvest,” Pavel Filip said.

At the same time, the PM thanked the European Investment Bank for the support provided within the project on horticulture sector development. Filip highlighted that the project was very important for the entire Moldova, as it gives farmers possibility to extent their work and modernize the infrastructure used. “This is a chance for Moldova to be proud with our fruits, which are natural and tasty. Namely this is what the society needs now; people demand sound products. We will always find place on market with such goods,” the prime minister noted.

Due to Moldova’s Orchard project, over 300 economic agents working in the horticulture field and more than 52,000 peasant households will be able to access investment loans at a suitable interest rate, with a repayment period of ten years and a grace period of up to four years. The minimum value of the loan is 5,000 euros and it may be used to endow with technical devices and mechanize the primary production processes in horticulture, for equipment with irrigation and anti-hail systems, as well as for diversifying the sales market for Moldovan fruits. The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Investment Bank, with an overall budget of 120 million euros, which should be turned to account by 2021.
