Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission will back Moldova in the transports sector and encourages the country to advance in improving the legal framework in the field. Director General for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission Henrik Hololei has made statements to this effect at a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
At the discussions, the parliament speaker referred to actions on transposing the EU acquis in the transport sector. Candu noted that the parliament and government were further synchronizing their agendas to ensure an as fast as possible pace of fulfilling the commitments taken. Among the actions adopted in the last period, Andrian Candu enumerated the adoption of a new code of road traffic, amendments made to the law on civil aviation, as well as Moldova’s accession to a string of European conventions to adjust the traffic standards.
“Moldova’s desideratum is to ensure a full integration on EU’s transports market. The new draft Aviation Code is contained on the agenda of the parliament for the autumn session, and is meant to ensure the transposition of about 80 acts and technical regulations of EU. Moldova relies on EU’s support to develop and implement the needed legislation,” Andrian Candu stressed.
The speaker also said there was political will to modernize the transports sector, noting that institutions were to be mobilized and the expertise of the civil society was to be turned to good account to this end, so that there are visible results in the short time. At the same time, Candu said that, in the second half of 2016, a new Roadmap of priority reforms or an action plan would be developed, under which the duty of parliamentary control is to be consolidated and the enforcement of the passed legislation be monitored.
For his part, Henrik Hololei said Moldova would benefit from European Commission’s support to develop and modernize the transports sector, as the country has potential due to be turned to account. Hololei encouraged the parliament to approve the legislative amendments for a quicker integration of Moldova’s transport field on the European transports market.
Henrik Hololei is on a visit to Chisinau, to launch a project on backing the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries in the civil aviation sector, with a budget of five million euros provided for to this end, distributed for four years.
