Moldova - EU relations in transport sector treated as priority

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today had a meeting with Director General for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission Henrik Hololei, on a visit to Chisinau on the occasion of the launch of a project on backing countries of Eastern Partnership and Central Asia in the civil aviation sector, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, President Timofti expressed appreciation for the support provided by the European Union to Moldova’s political association and integration on the domestic market of EU, including by contribution to modernizing the transport infrastructure.
In the context, the head of state welcomed the recent approval of a map on changing the inter-connections of the Trans-European Transport Network, with the including of a new route on the territory of Moldova.
“The transport networks are part of the tangible achievements, on the basis of which citizens can make a picture of the government’s work, as well as about the foreign partners of Moldova. I am sure that the works on construction of the Chisinau – Ungheni highway would soon advance, due to the support of EU and people like you,” President Timofti said.
For his part, Henrik Hololei said the European Union was committed for Moldova, and the latter must assume the reforms till the end. “Over the last months, I have noticed a positive evolution of the march of reforms in Moldova, to which I know that you contributed to, as a convinced pro-European,” Henrik Hololei said.
Also, the European official said the Moldova – EU relations in the transport field were treated as priority.
In the end of the visit, President Timofti handed the Order of Honour over to Henrik Hololei, as a token of high appreciation of his special merits in boosting the process of Moldova’s integration into the European structures and contribution to effective implementation of European Union’s projects in the transport infrastructure sector in Moldova.
