Romanian ambassador says Moldova strategic priority for Bucharest government

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met new Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita. The officials discussed the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation, degree of implementation of joint projects, cooperation on the international stage, with emphasis on Moldova-European Union ties, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime Minister welcomed the Romanian diplomat in Moldova, stressing that Romania’s support for Moldova was very important. “The bilateral relations have recorded a dynamic rise. Romania has provided constant support in the process of Moldova’s European integration,” Pavel Filip said.
For his part, Daniel Ionita said that Moldova represented a strategic priority for the Bucharest authorities. At the same time, the official said he started his mandate with much optimism and will to decisively contribute to Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union. “I want to congratulate you, the progress you have made is very important and is accordingly evaluated in Bucharest; yet, what is more important, it is appreciated in other capitals as well. We want to have a pragmatic approach of the bilateral relations, based on mutual interest and direct dialogue,” the Romanian ambassador said.
The officials exchanged opinions on reforms launched by the government, degree of implementing the commitments taken towards the development partners, negotiation of a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund, as well as actions undertaken to improve the citizens’ living standards. In the context, Daniel Ionita stressed that Romania would continue backing Moldova, both in terms of restoring kindergartens, fulfilling the SMURD (Romanian Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) mission, ensuring energy security, including on the project for building the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, as well as in other strategic sectors. At the same time, the ambassador noted that, during his mandate, he wants to strengthen and diversify the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation relations.
