Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - Over 5,500 Moldovan citizens are in Turkey at present. According to data by MOLDPRES, given that it is summer now, the figure might be larger. Most Moldovan tourists are in settlements on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and are out of danger, as the actions from Turkey regard, in particular, the cities of Istanbul and Ankara.
Some air companies informed that they would operate without change the flights from Chisinau to Antalya – a region that was not hit by the last night events. At the same time, the air flights from Chisinau to Istanbul temporarily remain suspended.
At the same time, more tourist agencies from Chisinau informed that they were in permanent touch with the pensions where tourists from Moldova are accommodated. According to the agencies, the situation is under control and with a few exception, the Moldovan tourists are not willing to interrupt their vacation.
The Foreign and European Integration Ministry urged the Moldovans from Turkey to remain vigilant, not to leave their dwellings, avoid public places, monitor the situation through the available media outlets, undertake all needed measures to enhance personal security.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip today morning summoned an emergency meeting on the situation in Turkey.
An attempt of coup d’etat failed in Turkey today morning. The latest data shows that the action resulted in 90 people dead, 1,154 injured and 1,563 arrested from the military staff.
