Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today morning summoned an emergency meeting on the situation in Turkey.
‘’We are in the summer period; many of our citizens are or intend to go to this country for leisure; therefore, we will keep a close eye on how the things are going on,’’ the prime minister said. He stressed that over 6,000 Moldovans were in Turkey at present.
Pavel Filip noted that a crisis cell had been set up at the Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), which has been monitoring the situation since the last night, when information appeared about unrest in Ankara and Istanbul.
The official said that, besides the contacts of the Moldovan Embassy and General Consulate in Turkey, an emergency phone would be created in Chisinau too. ‘’At this phone number, Moldova’s citizens set to leave for Turkey will be able to learn data on flights to the cities from this country and updated information of airports, as well as information on the situation at borders,’’ Filip said.
The PM urged the Moldovans not to leave the hotels where they are accommodated, unless the situation gets back to normal.
At the same time, the Moldovan prime minister said the government had sent messages of condolences to the authorities of Turkey on the victims in the wake of the last night actions.
An attempt of coup d’etat failed in Turkey today morning. The latest data shows that the action resulted in almost 100 dead, 1,154 injured and 1,563 arrested from the military staff.
