Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in the inauguration of two corridors, green and red, at the customs checkpoints Sculeni (Ungheni district, border with Romania). Attending the event were also the leadership of Moldova’s Customs Service and the Regional Directorate for Excise and Customs from Iasi, Romania, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The PM stressed that this event was very important, first of all, for citizens, as they will be able to cross the border more quickly. This achievement is equally important for Moldova’s European integration as well, Filip noted. “My request is that we are united with the citizens. The Customs’ efficient work is a very important stimulus for exchanging goods with partner countries,” Pavel Filip specified.

At the same time, the prime minister thanked the European Institutions for the investments made and technical expertise provided, stressing that the government would back the modernization of the Customs Service in continuation. “The first impression is created in Customs when someone enters the country and the Customs is also the picture which remains in our memory when leaving abroad. We must show those who come to Moldova that representatives of the state institutions treat them with respect. The Customs Service’s modernization means improving the services provided to citizens,” the PM added.

The two-corridor system is used to smooth the traffic of goods and passengers, as well as to shorten the time of waiting in customs. The green corridor is meant for private persons, and the red one – for enterprises.

The two-corridor system has been applied only at the Chisinau International Airport so far. Starting from today, this system will be used also at another four border checkpoints: Sculeni, Leuseni, Giurgiulesti and Tudora.
