Moldovan government backs starting electoral campaign to elect president on 31 August

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved a legislative initiative on carrying out a string of amendments to the parliament decision on establishing the date of electing Moldova’s president. Therefore, the government backs that, this year, the electoral period campaign for electing the Moldovan president starts on 31 August, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.  

The amendments promoted adjust the normative framework to completions on the way the presidential polls are organized and carried out, which the parliament adopted to the Electoral Code in last June. The completions see that the legislative body must establish the election day at least 60 days before the voting day.  

Therefore, the cabinet supported the amendments, according to which the electoral period for elections for the office of Moldova’s president, set for 30 October 2016, begins on 31 August this year.
