Europe Day to be officially marked in Moldova on 9 May

Chisinau, July 20 /MOLDPRES/ – The Europe Day will be officially marked on 9 May in Moldova, simultaneously with the Victory Day. The cabinet on 20 July approved an initiative by a group of lawmakers on completion of the list of the commemorative days, holidays and days-off.
The authors has said that the Europe Day was a symbolic day for the European integration aspirations of Moldova. And the country, which declared the European integration as the main goal of foreign policy, should celebrate together with all states of the European Union.
The amendments are to be made to the parliament decision on commemorative days, holidays and days-off in Moldova, as well as to the Labour Code.
In 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed the establishment of a new form of economic and political cooperation in Europe, which is to remove possibility of the outbreak of a new war between European states. The Europe Day is annually marked by the European Community and the partner countries on 9 May.
