Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Buiucani district court of Chisinau today extended the warrant of arrest against the mayor of Orhei town, Ilan Shor, by another 30 days.
The case prosecutor, Andrei Baiesu, has said that the reasons for which the prolongation of the warrant arrest was demanded had been grounded. “So far, the inquiry has advanced very much and we hope that, in a short time, we will send the criminal file to court,” Baiesu noted.
The lawyer of Ilan Shor, Denis Ulanov, said the court’s ruling was not reasoned. “The same evidence was presented, data and information was not set forth. I brought the judges a medical certificate of a specialized clinic from Israel, which shows that Ilan Shor suffers from a heart disease and needs special supervision and doctors’ care, yet, this was not taken into account. We are set to contest the decision at the Court of Appeal Denis,” Ulanov said.
Also today, more persons protested outside the Buiucani court, demanding the release of the Orhei mayor.
Anticorruption officers detained Ilan Shor on 22 June in a new criminal file. The Prosecutor General’s Office initiated criminal proceedings against him back in December 2014 on dubious transactions between Banca de Economii and Banca Sociala. In May 2015, the businessman was placed under home arrest for 30 days, with a status of defendant in the BEM file. Shor’s lawyers turned down the charges brought by prosecutors, noting that he pleads not guilty.
