Chisinau, July 23 /MOLDPRES/ – Net foreign currency supply from private persons has been maintained at a high level for the the sixth month in a row and exceeds demand of enterprises. BNM said that, compared to the last May, net foreign currency supply from individuals had decreased by 11.1 million dollars or 6.4 percent, while net demand for foreign currency by enterprises grew by 3.8 million dollars or 2.8 percent.

Amid a surplus of currency, BNM conducted interventions of procurement on the local interbank market, amounting to 20.7 million dollars.

In these circumstances, the Moldovan leu has slightly appreciated against the US dollar. The average exchange rate decreased from 19.8603 lei in May, to 19.8179 lei in June, or 0.2 per cent.

The largest share in the currency structure of net foreign currency supply from individuals belonged in continuation to the European single currency (59.8 percent), followed by the US dollar (24.6 percent) and Russian rouble (13.2 percent).

Net foreign currency supply represents the difference between purchases and sales by residents and net demand – the gap between the buyings and sales by enterprises.
