Education reform in focus on Moldovan government

Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - The government has approved the conditions for the preparation of the education institutions for the new academic year, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
At a today’s meeting, the cabinet approved a decision in the preparation of the education institutions for the 2016-2-17 academic year.
The document sets the concrete terms for finishing the works on preparing the institutions for the new school year and the cold season of the year, as well as aspects regarding the prevention of situations of risk for the life of children and education staff.
Also, the public authorities will be in charge of the compulsory schooling of children and their record, inclusion of pupils with special education requirements, organization of pupils’ nourishment and transportation.
Also today, the cabinet approved a government decision on financing of the vocational education institutions based on cost per pupil.
The normative act sets a new methodology of financing a new methodology of financing on the basis of cost per one pupils in the public vocational education institutions, as well as the way of their enforcement in the budgetary process. The new formula will differentiate the costs of education per one pupil, depending on the complexity and the level of the programme on professional training through applying programme coefficients. This will ensure the optimization of the earmarking of public money, encouraging and promotion of syllabi of vocational education needed for the labour market.
To implement the new financing mechanism, Moldova will benefit from financial support worth 1.6 million euros from the European Union through the programme on non-refundable budget support.
