Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with Interior Minister of Lithuania Tomas Zilinskas. The dialogue was focused on implementation of reforms within the law-enforcement bodies and possibilities to take over the best Lithuanian and European practices in this respect, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
In the beginning of the meeting, the PM referred to priorities in the cabinet’s activity and highlighted the importance of cooperation with the Lithuanian authorities.
“Moldova’s option is integration into the European Union; we believe that this is the best solution to ensure a better living for the citizens. Lithuania has already covered this way and succeeded. The experience you had is useful for us and we are interested in taking over the good practices established in the work of the Vilnius Interior Ministry,” Pavel Filip said.
For his part, Lithuanian Interior Minister Tomas Zilinskas conveyed congratulations to Moldova’s citizens on the Constitution Day, marked today. At the same time, the official stressed that, during his visit to Chisinau, the sides had already signed an inter-governmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in the field of preventing and reacting to emergency situations and held talks on other projects for bilateral collaboration.
“We are willing to provide you with assistance and exchange experience in sectors of common interest. I have already discussed with Moldova’s interior minister and set more possibilities of cooperation in the long run. We, in Lithuania, believe that the Moldovan authorities consciously do their homework in the relation with the European Union and we try to promote the results you achieve. You may rely on our support,” Tomas Zilinskas said
At the meeting, the sides also exchanged opinions on the reform of the law-enforcement bodies, ensuring public order and measures due to be undertaken to enhance citizens’ trust in police.
