Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - The former director of the financial control and internal audit service at the state enterprise Posta Moldovei (Moldova’s Post) Sergiu Cibotaru, today was detained for 72 hours, the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) told a today’s news conference.

The deputy head of the IGP criminal prosecution general department, Ruslan Ojog, has said that two criminal files were opened against Cibotaru for embezzlement of property of another in very large amount and for forcible work. The files were opened based on 16 complaints filed by more residents of the central Nisporeni district, reading that the suspect would have obliged them to work forcibly and for the fact that he embezzled very large sums of money from a person, Ojog said.

“Given that Sergiu Cibotaru has not come to the criminal prosecution body, based on the subpoenas sent, law-enforcers ruled to forcibly bring him to police. The accused person is said to have swindled dozens of people from the Barboieni village, by leasing their farmlands, under the pretext that he would provide them with a part of the harvest, and subsequently, he gave them nothing,” Ojog noted.

The overall sum of the damage brought to victims amounts to 400,000 lei. Sergiu Cibotaru has status of suspect, and law-enforcers continue the investigation, to identify all circumstances of the criminal file.

Cibotaru has earlier told a TV channel that Posta Moldovei employees are involved in illegal transportation of anabolic substances hidden in parcels and these actions would be guided just by the leadership of the enterprise.
