Moldovan deputy premier meets World Bank representatives

Chisinau, 2 August /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today met a group of World Bank (WB) experts, led by Alex Kremer, Country Manager for Moldova. The official of the international financial institution was accompanied by specialists in transports Claudia Pachon and Maria Elena Lungu, as well as by other WB representatives, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The sides exchanged views and ideas on prospects for implementation in areas from the left bank Dniester technical assistance projects aimed at: a) assessing the road network in the region; b) environmental problems, pollution control, quality risks management, etc.; c) programs for agri and/or community-based eco-tourism; d) vocational and entrepreneurial training for young people with low education levels. Particular attention was paid to feasibility studies in the field of road infrastructure, especially the activities envisaged under the Confidence Building Programme "Support for Knowledge".
The deputy prime minister welcomed the initiative of extending assistance projects in the Transnistrian region, meant to modernize the road infrastructure, stressing the need to assess the state of regional roads, update the database in the field, develop transport corridors and improve the situation on this segment. Balan also appreciated the World Bank's willingness to provide assistance and expertise to this end.
Within the framework of cooperation between the Moldovan government and the World Bank, the carrying out of these projects will help strengthen confidence between the residents from both banks of Dniester, restore the local infrastructure, develop settlement in terms of community, as well as promote programmes on regional partnership.
In the end, Gheorghe Balan thanked the representatives of the World Bank for the work they perform for the benefit of the population, encouraging continuous development of this cooperation.
