Moldovan premier speaks out for modern technologies in agriculture

Chisinau, 4 August /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip today visited an irrigation station in Roscani village, central Anenii Noi district, restored with the support of the Millennium Challenges Corporation, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The PM appreciated the results of the investments made and the growth opportunities created for farmers in the district. At the same time, Pavel Filip highlighted the importance of implementing modern technologies in agriculture. He said that the way the farmers associated was a good example for the whole country, and the modernized centralized irrigation systems showed us once again the importance of a successful collaboration with the development partners.
Meanwhile, the prime minister was informed about the operation of the water supply system and its delivery to end consumers. The mechanism is fully automated, energy-efficient and provides farmers with water at a low price.
Two new pumping stations were renovated in the Roscani village, nine new pumps were set through the Compact Project, implemented by the Millennium Challenges Corporation. At the same time, a water reservoir with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters was brought back into use and 27.5 kilometers of pipelines were installed.
The project implementation was possible due to the association of 729 farmers and joint promotion of the needs they have to develop business in Moldova. The potential of centralized irrigation systems in Roscani is over one thousand ha.
Ten irrigation systems have been restored in Moldova under the United States Government’s Compact Programme. The cost of the works is estimated at over 80 million dollars.
