Alexandru Tanase, the chairman of the Constitutional Court
MOLDPRES: After declaring the Independence, Moldova was able to follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS, Eurasian Union in the new version). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Tanase: Proclamation of Moldova’s Independence from Soviet Union meant that the people decided to separate from political space, in which it was incorporated by force of arms, contrary to its will, after the World War II. Separation from Soviet Union means the option of Moldovan people for a space of value, which elements are: respect for human dignity, democracy and human rights. These are the foundations of European value space, therefore, Moldova’s integration into EU is a normal goal we have to follow, no matter how complicated this process would be.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Tanase: Moldova’s future fully depends on citizens of our country. We can say that as we elect leaders, so future will bring.
