Valeriu Chitan, Finance Minister in 1994-1998
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Chitan: For us, Moldovans, the example of Baltic countries was and remains to be the one to follow.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Chitan: Radiography of the 25 years should inspire us more confidence, determination and consistency. I support the imperative of reaffirming the European option, approval of a project focused on institutional reconstruction and large economic remodelling to offer citizens a decent life. This goal can be achieved by a social consensus in convergence with a civic and professional education.
In conclusion, I want to say that time for a large scale reform, respectively, time for structural-institutional changes and redefining the role of the state – no longer has patience to us. Yet future cannot be postponed endlessly.
On the occasion of this historic event, I wish our fellow citizens best thoughts and much hope!
