Moldovan cards 15 per cent transactions evolution

Chisinau, 11 August /MOLDPRES/ – Transactions with cards issued by Moldovan banks on local market grew by over 15 per cent in quarter two against the first three months of this year, up to 9,3 billion lei, with reference to data stipulated by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
The Moldovan no cash operations market with cards issued here maintained in quarter I the tendency of the recent five years growth, but in April-June 2016 it was under the market average. E-payments increased in this year quarter II by 8 per cent against quarter I.
The Moldovans used cards for shopping and services in April-June in the total amount of 742 million lei. Daily, there were made around 27 thousand POS-terminals payment transactions for services and shopping. Cards payments share constituted 8 per cent.
A total of 13 659 POS-terminals installed in shops, petrol stations and other centres to provide services or commerce networks are available to holders of 1,4 million cards in circulation at the end of quarter II, according to BNM statistics.
The BNM data indicates that transactions with Moldovan cards across the borders went up by 6,3 per cent. In April-June 2016, Moldovan cards transacted over 920 million lei to 873,7 million lei in the first three months of this year. An impressive number, almost 85 per cent, of total foreign operations accounted card cashless arrangements.
On the other hand, foreigners or Moldovans who hold cards from abroad spent in Moldova over 1.3 billion lei, by 25,7 per cent more than in quarter I.
