Moldova: 25 years of independence
Sergiu Sirbu, MP of the Moldovan parliament
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Sergiu Sirbu: On 27 August 1991, signatories to the Declaration of Independence have shown great courage, offering a historical opportunity to Moldova to build future independently, in line with the secular values and traditions of the Moldovan nation.
I think unique and the most correct state development path has been chosen, even if we are facing today great challenges and many difficulties. So, no matter how complicated it would be, Moldova is independent during 25 years and we have to take maximum effort to strengthen this state in the name of future generations.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Sirbu: Moldova will remain an independent state, a member state of the European Community, a developed state in which the law supremacy, dignity and human rights will be supreme values, a state which our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be proud of!
