Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Buiucani district Court of the capital extended on 18 August the mandate of the remand home for another 30 days on the name of Orhei Mayor Ilan Sor.

The case prosecutor Andrei Baiesu stated that there was upheld the anticorruption prosecutors’ request. "We hope that in late August, early September, to send the case to the court," the Baiesu.

Denis Ulanov, the Ilan Sor's attorney, declared that the court decision would not be  a grounded one. "There were presented the same evidence, while there were no new data and information exposed. I brought to court more than 17 thousand signatures in support of Ilan Sor, but it was taken into account. The decision of today will be directed to the Court of Appeal," mentioned Ulanov.

Today, many people protested in front of the Buiucani district Court, demanding the release of the mayor of Orhei.

Ilan Sor was detained by the anticorruption officers in a new criminal case on 22 June. The General Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal case on his name again in December 2014 on dubious transactions between BEM and Banca Sociala (Social Bank). In May 2015 the businessman was placed under home arrest for 30 days, with the status of the accused in the BEM case. The lawyers of the suspect rejected the accusations, saying that he pleads not guilty.
