The Republic of Moldova: 25 Years of Independence
Vasile Bolea, deputy of PSRM parliament fraction
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Bolea: If today I took it over again, I would have chosen the same path, but only without repeating the mistakes of the past (I mean the outbreak of the Transnistrian conflict). The independence of our country gave us more perspectives. Personally, I noted myself in sports and I had the honour to represent our country abroad. I defended the country's flag and I made the strangers to stand up when it was displayed the tricolor and proudly sung the anthem of Moldova. In the world, there are more than two thousand ethnic groups and nationalities, but fewer countries, that is the reason why, we must value the fact that we have our home – Moldova. This is the house, which I inherited from ancestors and now must transmit to future generations. Well, I agree, maybe something we do not like in our house, maybe it is a mess, or needs to be repaired, however, the order must be done by all of us together – those over four million Moldovans and nobody else.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Bolea: In my opinion, the Republic of Moldova has a future as a state, and it is built daily by us. Consequently, as we work for the future, so it will be tomorrow. Personally, I see the Republic of Moldova in the future as an independent, neutral, reunified and with its citizens returned home. The economic problems we will solve, but only if all together, in a team of over four million teammates, who have one purpose and one cause. The cause is the Republic of Moldova.
