Moldova: 25 Years of Independence
Stefan Secareanu, journalist, former Member of Parliament of Moldova
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Stefan Secareanu: Unfortunately, after 25 years we are still not free! The key words of the Declaration of Independence – "Moldova is a sovereign, independent and democratic state, free to decide its present and future without any outside interference, in accordance with the ideals and holy aspirations of the people in historical and ethnic area of its national becoming" – even nowadays remain to be a dream of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, those ones who are at home by now and those scattered all around the world.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Stefan Secareanu: Let love fill this country to give birth to a moral political class, responsible to God and to its own people!
So that the freedom does not become anarchy, it must be united to love, for love empowers, teaches us the Christian ethics. The exercise of responsibility discovers to the man the sincere love for others!
This is the fundamental condition for our prosperity.
