Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip has attended the Diaspora Business Forum opening at its second edition, held on 21 August in Chisinau, entitled: Opportunities for local development, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

In his message, Pavel Filip mentioned the important role that the Moldovan Diaspora plays in our society and the fact that in February, the Government approved the National Strategy on Diaspora – "Diaspora-2025". "It is for the first time when Moldova prepares a policy document related the Diaspora – which confirms the significance of the phenomenon and the seriousness with which the government treats it," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister emphasized the Diaspora merit in the economic development of our country, especially through financial remittances sent by the Moldovan citizens temporarily living abroad. "The economic model based on consumption and imports, where we have lived until now, has allowed us to survive, but the fact is that this model is not sustainable and we can not get a durable development. We, those at the government, want to change the paradigm, and not to rely on consumption and imports but more on investment and exports," said the PM.

The prime minister spoke about the undertaken measures of the Moldovan authorities in the past six months to ensure a prosperous and attractive business environment, including investments coming from Moldovan countrymen working abroad and who want to expand their business in Moldova. In this respect, Pavel Filip was referring to re-launch PARE 1+1 program, designed to support the Moldovan migrants’ business investments in Moldova and to resume the work of Economic Council of the Prime Minister in a new , transparent and more efficient format. In the same vein, the Prime Minister reiterated the Government's determination to reform the state controls, to reduce the number of permits for launching businesses, but also to promote the policy documents that are clear and simple for those who want to work in the private sector, making reference to the draft law on parks of the information technology industry and other initiatives that are on the government's agenda.

Pavel Filip pointed out that these measures target the primary objective of the Government – the Moldovan people to live in prosperity, and those who are temporarily living abroad to be able to return home and feel good here.

The Diaspora Business Forum brought together business people from over 25 countries, who were born in Moldova, government officials, as well as the representatives of the private sector of Moldova. The event is organized under the patronage of the Moldovan Government, the Office for Relations with Diaspora, with the support of the International Organization for Migration, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation mission in Moldova and the German Society for International Cooperation.
