Moldovan, Turkish officials approach bilateral ties, cooperation

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/- On an official visit to Ankara, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur met Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on 22 August, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media relations service has reported.
Galbur expressed condolences to the entire Turkish people in connection with the terrorist attacks that hit Turkey lately. Also, he reiterated the Moldovan leadership’s support for the democratically elected authorities and constitutional order in Turkey.
The talks were focused on the main issues on the agenda of bilateral political dialogue. Both sides expressed willingness to boost the exchange of visits at the highest level. A special attention was paid to the economic bloc. Galbur expressed gratitude for ratifying by the Turkish parliament of the free trade agreement. Çavuşoğlu assured that the internal procedures necessary for entrance into force of the important legal instrument would be completed in the nearest future. In this context, the sides agreed on speeding up preparation for signing the agreement on mutual protection of investments.
The sides also discussed issues related to the international and regional security. They welcomed resumption of negotiations in the five plus two format. Çavuşoğlu reiterated the official stance of his country on unconditional support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.
Galbur appreciated the Turkish authorities’ support for more active integration of the Gagauz population into Moldovan society.
Çavuşoğlu expressed support for efforts to consolidate the dialogue and interaction on Chisinau-Comrat axis, pointing out the institutionalized cooperation platforms.
Galbur especially thanked for the technical and financial assistance provided via the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
The officials signed the Moldovan-Turkish intergovernmental agreement on paid work of people in the care of members of diplomatic missions and consular offices.
Galbur invited his Turkish counterpart to pay an official visit to Moldova.
