Petru Lucinschi, former President of Moldova
MOLDPRES: After the proclamation of Independence, Moldova could follow three ways of development: independent, unionist or closely dependent on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (most recently, the Eurasian Union). Should we start from the very beginning, what path would you choose?
Lucinschi: I would choose the same path, independence one. Subsequently, we have to aspire to the EU integration and the level of the EU countries. So, we can say that we are presently going on the right path.
MOLDPRES: What future do you see for Moldova?
Lucinschi: I see very optimistic Moldova’s future. I think we can become a successful country with specifics and our beauty. It is important to remain an independent country and to have good relations with neighbors. We know politics is very important and full of historical events, however, we have to take into account that the main actions are made by people.
If speaking about perspectives, then for improving economic sector we have to analyze well market requirements, unfortunately, we are focusing on very hard and we do not work for the country. Stable conditions must be created for foreign investors, as well as a group of people to assess concretely how to develop the country further.
